Netezza Performance Server vs HP Oracle Database Machine

Listen to the Podcast: Netezza Performance Server Podcast.

Are you involved in data warehousing at all? I have been for a long time. One of the things that has always interested me is the Data Warehouse Appliance. I once had the chance to see a demo of an early netezza butI have never had the opportunity to use one myself.

At Openworld, Larry Ellison announced the HP Oracle Database machine. This is a large clustered array of servers and exadata storage nodes. I'm not much of a storage person but I have sized hardware before and the database machine seems to be a very sweet machine. It fits the definition of datawarehouse appliance but can also be used as an OLTP RAC machine.

I recently had the opportunity to talk to Phil Francisco, the VP of Product Management & Product Marketing at Netezza. It was a very enlightening discussion for me.

I got the opportunity to understand more about the Netezza Performance Server (NPS) architecture, how it compares to the HP Oracle Database Machine, as well as why Netezza claims that the NPS is faster and what they offer in the way of tools and support for developers.

I even had the chance to ask about some of the NPS marketing messaging.
