LOB - Large OBject. May be a Character LOB (CLOB) or a Binary LOB (BLOB). Different databases treat LOBs very differently. For example, Oracle has a special data type for a CLOB as well as special access methods. Postgres, on the other hand, treats TEXT as a CLOB.
